Devious Journal Entry

Sat Feb 9, 2008, 9:35 AM
  • Mood: Neutral
I persistently challenge myself to see how far my imagination can soar on earth and through space by contemplating ideas about time, moments, and overall experiences. I find myself overwhelmed by the limitless possibilities that can be explored and realized as our souls gradually evolve towards a higher level of potential. As this evolution plays out inside of our minds, we continue to create and interact with the constructed, visible world around us. I draw on these visual references, as well as symbols, icons, and metaphors to inform my paintings from a philosophical and analytical point of view. The process of creating my work leads me to question ideas about societal laziness, when clearly there is an ever-changing-machine-mind of information present in all of us that can be tapped into at any given time to promote greater understanding and awareness of the world. When I look at all of the animate and inanimate objects in my surroundings, I continually see opportunities to create unique objects. By using watercolor and colored pencils on paper, I attempt to morph these unique objects into a flowing, cohesive visual aesthetic that creates a semi-abstract, organic representation of the familiar in an unrecognizable way.
As numerous living beings breathe and interact around me, I find myself focused on the spaces in and around conversations, sounds, and gestures. I envision information as sound waves that create visible passageways to new worlds and dimensions inside my mind. I imagine our bodies shedding layers of skin as our souls grow and expand ultimately glowing visibly with an ethereal quality that outshines normal, physical limitations. As we go through this process we embrace daydreams as an escape from reality. I draw on imagery from this waking, dreamlike state and morph them into detailed, complex images that are rendered with the intention of giving insight into other planes of existence that await us.
